New and improved design of my popular Nathan Drake replica holster from the
Uncharted 3 video game by
Sony.
Most of the large improvements have been in the leather selection and some hardware changes.
I have chosen to go with a Kodiak Oiled leather with a softer and more worn feel. It is not your typical gun leather that is stiff and unforgiving. It looks great and has a great, lightweight feel.
Some of the hardware had been upgraded to solid brass pieces over pressed or rolled brass.
Most significantly, however, is the color change from V1 to V2. You will also notice the leather change from V2 to V3 has a less shiny look. I think it makes a huge difference in the replica consistency. I also have tightened up the pattern to more snugly fit the Colt 1911 pistol. But it also fits a Beretta M9 very well.

That's right. "I've been here for years." However, I realize that it has been almost a year since I posted here. Life has kept this part-time artist very busy. But change and time bring a new chapter in life. One thing I am most excited about is the opportunity to prioritize my hobby and spend more time in the craft shop. Nothing too extravagant but I will be Re-energizing my
Etsy shop. Come Check it out here -
Increditastic.
I plan to start with my leather working and possibly get back into making costumes again.
Halloween has a way of sparking my interest each year and luring me back to my neglected love.
There. I said it. Now, I guess I have to do it. We'll see.
Oh, here is a sneak peek at my son's costume inspiration for this year. He said,"I want to be a samurai." #prouddad

My latest custom order is for a Christmas present. The client wanted to replicate a leather holster from a few reference images. Here are the images.
Below is the slideshow of the construction and the finished item. You can see in the finished slides, the client wanted to add a removable leather pouch for an
iPhone 5. To make the case more versatile I included snaps that allow it to be attached to a belt for use without the harness. I enjoyed making this piece and even learned a bit more about aging brass. I hope the recipient loves it.
I have moved from prototype to production on the watch cuff. I found the
Invicta Pro Diver that looks very close to the actual
reference image used to model for the video game.
Thanks again to the good people over at
theRPF for reference images and an eye for detail.
Overall I am pretty pleased with the outcome.
I am extending my Uncharted series of designs with this beautiful leather cuff. Here is my first attempt to prototype the design. I owe much thanks to the awesome people at theRPF forum posting in
this thread about the watch.
I will be creating this for a female customer to cosplay Nathan Drake at
PAX East 2013. She will be wearing this watch and another design of mine -
Nathan Drake Holster- I have been selling on my Etsy shop

Each year our family takes a break from our normal creativity to focus our efforts on pumpkin carving. This year I decided to give a tribute to a very special couple who were married this past weekend.
This is Travis Oberg and Shannon Varis Oberg from one of their wedding pictures. Congrats to them both and I hope they appreciate my tribute to their marriage and their future.

UPGRADE - I have been making this holster, or similar designs, for a while now. Recently, I was requested to make a replica of the
Uncharted 3 holster design. After finding reference images from
RPF, I started out to get as close as I could to the original. I must give much props to
The Leatherworker, a member of the Replica Prop Forum who is a very accomplished artisan. I found the images in his
Uncharted leatherwork album to be very helpful in my design. I will tell more about the purpose of this holster order in my future posts. I am not at liberty to discuss any details at this time.
You can see the progress on my skill and design by comparing the slideshow to the image of my first holster on the right. We've come a long way baby.
